Welcome to Old School Boxing Gym — where boxing isn’t just a workout, it’s a way of life.

Founded in August 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona, Old School Boxing Gym was created with a simple mission: to provide a true boxing environment focused on learning the sport, building discipline, and developing competitive fighters. At a time when combat sports were rapidly growing in popularity, many gyms began offering boxing-style fitness classes. Old School Boxing took a different approach — creating a real boxing gym where athletes can train, spar, and compete.

Old School Boxing Gym is open to everyone who wants to learn the sport of boxing, regardless of experience level, age, gender, or background. The gym welcomes beginners, amateur competitors, and professional fighters alike, offering a supportive environment where hard work, respect, and dedication come first.

Programs at Old School Boxing Gym start at age 8 and up, and training is available for girls and boys, women and men who want to develop their skills and push themselves to new levels. As a USA Boxing registered gym, Old School Boxing provides amateur fighters with opportunities to compete while also supporting professional athletes as they advance in the sport.

The gym is also proud to serve as the home of Grand Canyon University (GCU) Club Boxing, helping college athletes develop their skills and compete while continuing their education.

The name Old School Boxing Gym was inspired by legendary boxing coach Sam “Old School” “Thin Man” Morris, a respected mentor and longtime figure in the Phoenix boxing community. Sam continues to train fighters at Pro Edge near Camelback Road and 16th Street, and his passion, dedication, and love for the sport played a major role in inspiring the creation of the gym. His influence helped shape the philosophy behind Old School Boxing — honoring the traditions of the sport while building the next generation of fighters.

The idea for the gym began years earlier with a small group of dedicated athletes who trained early in the mornings, often starting around 5:00 AM. They shared a love for boxing, hard work, and the camaraderie that comes from training together. When their previous gym shifted its focus away from boxing, the group faced a difficult question: where would they continue to train?

Most gyms opened only in the afternoons or evenings, and none were willing to provide early access for serious athletes who wanted to train before the day began.

So the group made a decision that changed everything.

If the right boxing gym didn’t exist… they would build one themselves.

And from that determination, Old School Boxing Gym was born — a place built by fighters, for fighters, dedicated to preserving the spirit and tradition of the sport.
